Who We Are
Established in 2003, Promise Healthcare is the fifth largest long-term acute care hospital company in the United States. With 15 hospitals and two skilled nursing facilities, Promise Healthcare facilities utilize an interdisciplinary approach to healing and wellness for the nation’s most critically ill population.
Serviced by more than 5,000 physicians and employees, Promise Healthcare facilities are known for outstanding clinical quality scores that consistently outperform national benchmarks, especially for our successful ventilator weaning program. Patient satisfaction ratings at Promise hospitals are among some of the highest in the industry ranging between 91.06% and 96% since 2012.
How It All Began
In the summer of 2003, Peter Baronoff, CEO and Chairman of Promise Healthcare, acquired a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital in a rural community in Shreveport, Louisiana. On his first day as CEO, Peter had an encounter that would shape the future of Promise Healthcare and ignite the compassion and dedication that continues to set Promise apart today.
“I joined one of our case managers on a visit to a patient’s family at their home. When I walked in the home, one of the family members came up to me, gave me a huge hug and said ‘Mr. Baronoff, thank you for what your hospital did for us.’ I could feel the sincerity and gratitude in that hug and it had a lasting impact on me. It was on that day, at that moment, that I knew this was going to be an important part of my life,” recalls Peter. The facility in Shreveport would go on to become Promise’s flagship hospital, Promise Hospital of Louisiana.
What’s in a Name?
Inspired by his first encounter with a patient’s family, Peter knew he needed a name for the company that would convey the conviction and purpose he felt that day. After working to no avail with several agencies to find the right name, he went home one night and asked his 12-year old daughter to give him another word for commitment. Without hesitation, she replied “Daddy, it’s a promise.” With that, Promise Healthcare was born.
“The name ‘Promise’ holds us to a standard. It means we will do everything to make sure you or your loved one is receiving the highest quality of care in the most compassionate way possible. Quality care is always Promise #1,” says Peter.
Growth and Expansion
Since its inception, Promise Healthcare has continuously expanded its industry presence throughout the country. Currently, there are 18 Promise LTAC hospitals and two skilled nursing facilities (SNF) in eight states. In 2014, Promise added six facilities to its portfolio including two SNFs in Texas and Kansas. The inclusion of the SNFs provided an opportunity for Promise to broaden its scope within the continuum of patient care.
In recent years, Promise has also custom designed and built several LTAC hospitals from the ground up. Located throughout Louisiana and Florida, these hospitals are fully equipped with the latest technology and safety features including fully outfitted Operating Rooms and special flooring technology that is anti-microbial, anti-fungal and helps to minimize patient and staff slips or falls.
Across each of our health care facilities, we believe our first responsibility is to provide exceptional care to our patients and their loved ones.
